United Power is the coal and emissions brokerage division of ICAP United, Inc., a subsidiary of ICAP plc, the world's largest interdealer broker. The Group is active in the wholesale market for OTC derivatives, fixed income securities, money market products, foreign exchange, energy, credit and equities derivatives.

United's staff of over 40 brokers serve over 500 industry clients across the three major energy market segments; physical energy - crude oils, gasoline, distillates, jet fuel, coal and emissions; energy derivatives - crude, fuel oil, natural gas NYMEX swaps, emissions derivatives and coal swaps; and energy futures - NYMEX floor brokerage, introducing Broker services, and technical advisory services.

United Power was established in response to EPA’s Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 that encourages the use of market-based principles and other innovative approaches, such as performance-based standards, emission banking and trading. The Emissions Division brokers SO2 emissions allowances and SO2 emission options, NOx outright and NOx options, Reclaim Allowances and Emission Reduction Credits.

The Coal Division was added in 2000 to compliment the business objective of the emissions desk and to address the emergence of coal trading and market price volatility. Our coal desk combines its strong financial brokerage experience with focused knowledge and insight in coal procurement, production, transportation and marketing. This industry expertise allows United to source, market and facilitate transactions involving both over-the-counter (OTC) and many non-standardized coal specifications and deliveries.
